Geothermal
Energy is heat (thermal) derived from the earth (geo). It is the
thermal energy from the earths core, which is stored in
the rock in the earths crust. Ground-source heat pumps use
this diffuse low temperature resource which is available everywhere.
The heat pump, a device that moves heat from one place to another,
transfers heat from the soil to the building in winter and from
the building
to the soil in the summer. All geothermal heat pumps operate without
the need for flames or combustible gas and are therefore a safe
choice, requiring minimal inspection and maintenance.
Using
a small amount of electricity to move stored heat from the ground,
or in reverse, to move excess heat from your home back into the
ground during the cooling season, geothermal heat pumps are on
average 3.75 to 5.8 times more cost effective than the high efficiency
gas or electric furnaces on the market today.
The
GE Series, when equipped with the Extended Range Option,
are suitable for geothermal applications. Using the energy stored
in the earth is not only good for the environment but makes good
economic sense as well. Savings from 40% to 70% in heating costs
and up to 40% in cooling costs over conventional systems are possible
in a geothermal application.
